Daniel Hartshorn - Teenage Years
I found my first love in the shed
It was a place of inspiration where we'd gather with our friends
Sing out loud through the night
And then we'd stoke the fire and sink another drink
And I knew I loved her and she loved me too
But she's still sitting here with me
I found my first true love in my teenage years
My father left a few years before
He never said where he would go before he walked out the door
I couldn't tell if it hurt that he never saw me sing
I didn't know how to deal with loss
My mom was broken and could offer no support
I had to grow up early on
I can't forget how my family fell apart in my teenage years
My little sister, my best friend
It amazed me how she leveled out with a baby on the way
My grandma's heart was on the fence
She'd never choose, she loves us all
And she kept me thinking straight
I couldn't thank them enough for all the help, support
And strength they gave to me so selflessly
It was the love that I needed the most in my teenage years
And all my friends are still around
Some are on the stage with me and some are in the crowd
We used to drink and share our dreams about the world
And how we'd never just be normal people and never let us down
I never cared for all the things I didn't have
I just loved the things I had
I always smile and I look back at my teenage years
Through memories good and bad, I always smile when I look back at my teenage years
