RealasChris - The American Dream

Sitting at the edge of the bed
5am, and don't be late
Just enough to cover the bills
That's all we make
Tired
But can't get fired, a job we hate
Count on us to need them for life
So can't be great
Be average
And here lies the madness
Can't get past this
Beginning to seem
The American dream is savage
You see that?
They keepin' us blind
So we don't react
They really saying work 'til you 60
Then you can relax
I get it
Some people is wit it
Simple livin'
A couple bucks for bills
And groceries for they children
Only the essentials
They happy to have a front door
But for some of us it don't sit right
I want more
Than work to keep the balances paid off
No family through the week
You see 'em on ya 2 days off
While restin'
Runnin' errands
And some fun?
Man you way off
And then that covid' hit
We gettin' sick and get laid off
(It's bullshit)
They say it's the American dream
But is it really?
It's a cold world
I'm startin' to feel chilly
Everybody running the race
It's a handful that won
While the rest of us is running in place
They say it's the American dream
But is it really?
It's a cold world
I'm startin' to feel chilly
Everybody running the race
It's a handful that won
While the rest of us is running in place
Nothing wrong with wantin' to be rich
And not work, shit
I know people who do just that
Say it's worth it
Been all around the world
Blowing cash
And throw that shit on
While still makin' a bag
And helpin' young niggas get on
It's facts
If they get up or not
They pockets fine
While I struggle for the time to plan
And get on my grind
An hour for commute
8 hours sit in a booth
Then it's home to make a meal
And hop in the shower too
Add a hour
You wanna stay fit?
Already 6 now
Then it's 8 o'clock
You finally get to sit down
Family time
Put on a flick
And when it go off
10 o'clock or later
It's over, you start to doze off
Business plan collect dust in the den
Yea you really wanna make it
You trying to just work out when
As the days turn to weeks
To months, and then to years
The American dream coming true
Is my biggest fear
They say it's the American dream
But is it really?
It's a cold world
I'm startin' to feel chilly
Everybody running the race
It's a handful that won
While the rest of us is running in place
They say it's the American dream
But is it really?
It's a cold world
I'm startin' to feel chilly
Everybody running the race
It's a handful that won
While the rest of us is running in place
The 1 percenters cracked the code
And snatched the gold
I wanna say it's whack
But I slacked and slowed
I coulda done better
Grinding like I'm fat and old
'Fore it's too late
I can't break
Take a crack and fold
And make excuses
I already knew this
It's been proven
It's 2 steps
It's making a plan
And then to do it
The TV been getting too much love
And I ain't missing shit
Tyreek will still be sellin' drugs
Forget power
I need to get at a dollar
I know a nigga five two
That's six one when he stand on his wallet
And he ain't hardly a scholar
No degrees or the muscle
Just always on the hustle
While knowing life is a tussle
Gotta chase it
Because it's better than green
I gotta scheme
Get the team
For this cheddar and cream
A couple revenue streams
Then I'll forever be king
And marry a queen
And that's the American dream
They say it's the American dream
But is it really?
It's a bold world
I'm chasin' it out of Philly
Everybody running the race
This is one I plan to win
So for now I'm
Just running my pace
They say it's the American dream
But is it really?
It's a bold world
I'm chasin' it out of Philly
Everybody running the race
This is one I plan to win
So for now I'm just running my pace
