Cipher Disciple - The Bigger Picture

The black mirrors we're staring into distort our perception
Too busy browsing to stop and pause for reflection
Not aware of our surroundings, we're distracted by imagery
Chained to our devices while we think that we're living free
The bigger picture, we can't see it through our smartphones
Nobody's there, the lights are on, but we aren't home
We've lost our way because we've been misdirected
We have a thousand friends, yet we feel disconnected

Everywhere you look, people are hooked on the things

After attacks and tragedies, we always feel we ought to share
But change won't happen magically, just with our thoughts and prayers
Getting our hands dirty is what it would take for it to work
Instead of stroking each other's egos like a circle jerk
Ignorance is bliss; our shallow minds aren't thinking deep
Brainwashed by mainstream news, like lather, rinse and repeat
Believing the government's lies while sending out positive vibes
And only doing good deeds as long as they're publicised
We're anti-social media leeches, craving attention
Consuming our Facebook feed, and it tastes of pretension
Treating every moment as a hashtagging opportunity
The language of narcissism, we speak it fluently
But we're not getting better with age like fine wine
Despite the way things seem to appear on our timeline
Our attitudes stink like a terrible lingering smell
All talk, never lifting our Twitter fingers to help
Our posts are hollow; quotes are borrowed
And we're choking on sorrow
Acting happy, like the false idols that we hopelessly follow
The truth we don't swallow, 'cause it's hard to drink its elixir
Flicking through Instagram, we're still not seeing the bigger picture
The camera flashes are blinding our eyes
We might look alive, but we've had an untimely demise
Hiding behind a disguise, we're like ghosts in a shell
Stuck in this depraved new world, a dystopian hell

The black mirrors we're staring into distort our perception
Too busy browsing to stop and pause for reflection
Not aware of our surroundings, we're distracted by imagery
Chained to our devices while we think that we're living free
The bigger picture, we can't see it through our smartphones
Nobody's there, the lights are on, but we aren't home
We've lost our way because we've been misdirected
We have a thousand friends, yet we feel disconnected

The black mirrors we're staring into distort our perception
Too busy browsing to stop and pause for reflection
Not aware of our surroundings, we're distracted by imagery
Chained to our devices while we think that we're living free
The bigger picture, we can't see it through our smartphones
Nobody's there, the lights are on, but we aren't home
We've lost our way because we've been misdirected
We have a thousand friends, yet we feel disconnected
