The Long Defeat - The Desert (Demo)

I went out into the wilderness
I was hoping to find the answers
To some of the questions in my head
When I saw you there, I didn't understand
With flowers in your hair and your feet in the sand
You looked me in the eye and took me by the hand
You said "We're all just waiting for the promised land"
We were dancing in the desert
Both hands lifted to heaven
Just praying for an answer
But asking all the wrong questions
We were holding on together
Just hoping that the weather
Might get a little better
Dancing for rain in the desert
Then you stood up and started speaking out with conviction
Well it sounded pretty good, so I sat down to listen
You said "You can't find God in a book or in a building"
"He's the earth, the sky, and all of His children"
You said "Look around, tell me what's the difference?"
"We're singing different songs but dancing to the same rhythm"
Well it was hard to tell if it was foolishness or wisdom
You said "Why you gotta make that decision?"
We were dancing in the desert
Both hands lifted to heaven
Just praying for an answer
But asking all the wrong questions
We were holding on together
Just hoping that the weather
Might get a little better
Dancing for rain in the desert
When you said that we could stay this way forever
Well I knew that it was time for me to go
Because even though I'd learned so much out in the desert
There's still so much more that I still need to know
We were dancing in the desert
Both hands lifted to heaven
Just praying for an answer
We were holding on together
Just hoping that the weather
Might get a little better
Dancing for rain in the desert
