The Long Defeat - The Hardest Battle

I met a boy, no older than me
He was tying his boots on the side of the street
Said he was going off to war to fight for his liberty
"Too long," he said, "have I gone unseen
Living like a slave in the land of the free
Begging and stealing and sleeping on cold concrete"
Well he had no friends and he had no home
The poor boy had spent his whole life alone
All he had to his name was a sling and a couple stones
When he reached way down in his pocket
Pulled out a rock and then he started walking
They said "Don't you know there are giants down this road"
He said "Well I've never seen a giant
But I've wrestled bears and I've beaten lions
And I think the hardest battle that I've fought was with myself
Will I stand tall against an army
With no friend at my side, and none before me
Because if I don't believe in the God of my fathers, then who will"
Well I used to believe that the world could change
And I wanted to help in some way
Now I just sit back and wait for someone else to save us someday
But what if a man was actually brave
Brave enough to stand up in the face
Of these armies and kings with their hatred and greed
Would it change anything
Well there was a day when faith moved mountains
And we understood if we marched and we shouted
Cities would fall, but no voice has been heard in years
Meanwhile they're taking your innocent sons and daughters
And they're turning them all into martyrs
Does anyone here still believe that love is greater than fear
On the front lines I'll
Lay my weapons down
This is not my fight
I will end this now
On the front lines I'll
Lay my weapons down
This is not my fight
I will end this now
On the front lines I'll
Lay my weapons down
This is not my fight
I will end this now
Well I know that I've never seen a giant
But I've wrestled bears and I've beaten lions
And I used to be afraid of dying, but not anymore
So I'll hold my ground against any army
They see me now, but I know what's coming
I've been to the mountaintop
I've caught a glimpse of what's in store
If we are the children of love
Then there's no place for us in this war
On the front lines I'll
Lay my weapons down
This is not my fight
I will end this now
