The Nigel Purcell Trio - The Journey home (Remix and Remastered)

The water cistern hisses in the distance
The over flow spews up
It's contents on to the concrete floor

Telephone lines cut stark lines
Across the clear night sky
Oh I'm walking from side to side
My shoes cut into my ankles
Cut into my wallet
Cut into my mind

I decide to stop and rest
Against someone's front wall
I've had too much to drink
And I can't take no more

I see a shape approaching
From out of the distance
I hear it's tapping steps come up
And then suddenly stop
It's disappeared
And I am in shock

Seconds come minutes
And minutes seem hours
I'm trying to get my head
Around this moment

My heart rate increases
I feel I am shaking
My cigarette burning
I'm yearning the safety of home
Warm cozy bed
To rest my head

I put my shoes on
And then begin to move
I'm not thinking straight
I'm all over the place

I cross the road and I'm
Caught in the mad machines headlights
Beacons of light that draw
Pedestrians to their death
Only a stone's throw from their graves
My heart beats so fast

A drunk lumbers past me
Imitating the over flow
Imitating my uneasy steps
His adrenalin flows
As I come towards him
Cold and grey like I he don't run
Just trying to get
Home
