Tom Robson - The Rulers of the Playground

We're like the rulers of the playground
We're like the kings and queens of the school
There are no greater boys or girls around
We lead the games
We make the rules

We always rule and judge with style and grace
That is when teachers is not around
And all the younger children know their place
'Til that bell rings, we own the swings
We own the playground

Thump the tetherball
Swoosh down the slide
Kick the playground ball way up high
Climb the monkey bars
Pump the swings
Run through the grass like you have wings

It seems like ages ago I started school
But I remember my first day
My first time out there I felt like a fool
Is this the place,
I'm supposed to play?

They had these big kids taking all the stuff
Like they're the only ones allowed
I tried to play and they got kind of rough
They did just fine, I'm last in line
I'm last in line

Thump the tetherball
Swoosh down the slide
Kick the playground ball way up high
Climb the monkey bars
Pump the swings
Run through the grass like you have wings

It's been a long time, now I'm at the top
I've got the chance to do some good
If I see younger children, I try to stop
Just like I wished
Those big kids would

I know a real king's friends are everyone
I know that real queens help all they can
I know we'd all be friends and have some fun
If you just knew, I'm just like you
It's your playground too

Thump the tetherball
Swoosh down the slide
Kick the playground ball way up high
Climb the monkey bars
Pump the swings
Run through the grass like you have wings
Run through the grass like you have wings
