Ronoc 'N' Roll - The Songs I Wrote About You (Were My Best)

We may not be talking anymore
We may still be friends but I can't tell for sure
Our phones are bone-dry from this drought of texts
Don't know if you'll call or what to expect

Willing to write you half a letter and email the rest
To tell you the songs I wrote about you were my best
They were my best

Yes my heart was broken at the time
But each heartstring pulled gave me another line
Soon I'll have a whole album finished
With all these tunes about you written in it

Filling your name into the header, an R on the crest
To say the songs I wrote about you were my best

I start punching out lyrics when I'm
Emotional, so nine out of ten times
Whatever's etched on the sheet's drenched in truth
This poem's an extended metaphor
Don't know what I'm getting so meta for
I'm writing about writing about you

Like a straight-A student we're on good terms
But our lack of chatting gets me concerned
Are these songs all for naught if you don't hear 'em
Or just cures for my sadness like some gladness serum

I've pushed those emotions down again, they're repressed
Cuz the songs I wrote about you were my best
Based on flowery phrases I've used for you, you should've guessed
That the songs I wrote about you were my best
They were my best
They were my best
