Anarchophy - Three Day Weekend

Bank holiday and I though I'd better use it
To write something that sounds like Japanese entrance music
That wasn't my intention when I first sat down to write
But that's what happens to a mind obsessed with wrestling day and night
I watched eight hours straight of WWE
Catching up on Raw and Smackdown and with NXT
Then I gotta get my Yen's worth and watch some New Japan
Not enough hours in the day to satisfy this grappling fan
Super Strong Style 16 - 3 days of Progress too
And did I mention Sunday night's the Backlash pay per view?
Three more hours watching my heroes pretend to fight
Then the cycle starts again with a new Raw tomorrow night!

Bank Holiday - No Work For Three Days

The working week's a backlog of dreams deferred and fun delayed
But then this gift of time arrives and all the plans can be remade
The three day weekend lies before me, pregnant, full of promise
I really don't want to waste them - but if I'm being honest...
72 hours sounds a lot but 24 will be spent sleeping
Then a bunch more catching up on chores and quite a few more eating
Realistically, the goals I have - seeing friends and family
The books I think I'm going to read - the podcasts, films and the TV
The creative projects I imagine I will be undertaking...
Not even half of this can be fit in into the meagre time remaining

So take away the fifteen hours spent watching pseudo-fighting
While these days are still an imperfect way of fitting a whole life in
And I didn't spend the time discovering a cure for cancer
Or tackling philosophy's biggest questions for an answer
And I may not clear my shelves of every book that I have picked
Or be able to binge on my entire watchlist over on Netflix
Or listen to every song my hungry ears may want to hear
Or write a brand new album or get prorities clear
I got to see Avengers - and that Amy schumer film
And the one book that I read was a good one by Joe Hill
And I saw Kamasi Washington play at Cheltenham jazz
And I got back up to date with the Pansycast podcast

And I wrote this song
It may not be about anything important
But I wrote this song

And I haven't even gotten to the most important thing
Because if you look on my left hand then you'd see my wedding ring
Everything else I've mentioned hitherto this final section
Is merely background rhyming to a public display of affection
Three days off means three days in - three breakfasts with my wife
And when I watch those hours of wrestling who'd you think is by my side?
That drive to see Kamasi, at the venue next to me
Whose hand do you think I'm holding while he's blowing on his reed?
Who was forced to hear this song from embryo to final stage?
Who celebrates and smiles when I turn a book's last page?
It's not about what you do, but who you get to do it with
I don't need a three day weekend to enjoy the life I live
