Sandy Rapp - Where Were the Flowers

Where Were the Flowers

Where Were The Flowers? We all wanted to know.
For we were the flower children long time ago.
Someone took the flowers, and went marchin' up the Hill.
Now roses take many lives, but flowers weren't meant to kill.

How many years we wondered, long time ago.
We were looking for the answers where the four winds blow.
Most winds are friendly flower children can tell.
A chill wind from Washington took young Rebecca Bell.

They say life they want control.
They want your body and your mind and your soul.
How many lives? How many roads?
'Til we take back the bread and the rose.

Becky was a youngster, born in Indiana State.
Afraid to tell her parents of a choice that she had made.
But the laws were written, and the judges R-T-L,
So to a backstreet hack went young Rebecca Bell.

They say life they want control.
They want your body and your mind and your soul.
How many lives? How many roads?
'Til we take back the bread and the rose.

I have a hammer. It belonged to Becky Bell.
And she has a story which now the angels tell.
So she writes it on the night wind
And she sings it in your dreams:
We are the people and the children must be free.

They say life they want control.
They want your body and your mind and your soul.
How many lives? How many roads?
'Til we take back the bread and the rose.

They say life they want control.
They want your body and your mind and your soul.
How many lives? How many roads?
'Til we take back the bread and the rose.
