Edward Sexton - Whitstable Rock

Dead until proven living he said to me
Over rolling hills of power lines bicycle boy is still un-free
Sea salted knuckles wrapped around words without weight
I've got so much to say but no more ways to say it
Brother it's getting late

Souls caught in coffee cups behind these shades they cry
Lured by billboard beauty pinned up against the sky
Can you tell me did they take the bait?
There's flames behind every strangers eyes I just know there is
Brother it's getting late

Meet me on the key to the west
You know you know I've got something to confess
Flashing red signals on my face as I wait
The flood lights in the dark water
Brother it's getting late

The stones split on the beach we sit
Nothing but love in silence between the murmurs that this is it
I'm sounding dumb but at peace at the end of this long wait
See the tears in my eyes there's so much left unsaid
But brother it's getting late

In the midnight spot light I think everything will be fine
Time stops for me to cry in my car just one more time
With the clashes of rigging digging into masts ticking clocks they create
Forever lost at sea but maybe that's just me
Brother it's getting late

Maybe I'm nostalgic for something that never belonged to me
These strangers, just you and me in this room with some poetry
These bad actors on every corner leave my future up to fate
It's just another sad movie
But brother it's getting late
