DrScythe - Wishing Well

Their intentions won't matter
If thrown into the well
Even most noble causes
Can't stay afloat down there

Yet they keep returning
And make another wish
For it to simply drown
Like all the other ones

It's the sole expression
In their repertoire
It substitutes compassion
And the function of a heart

All the good wishes
Thrown in the wishing well
Irrelevant and meaningless
All the good wishes
Already drowned down there
Unheard and long forgotten

Every catastrophe
An opportunity
For them to loudly claim
They feel for the victims

The hands are neatly folded
A cherished sign to them
Just a routine that's molded
Into their system

They wait for the epiphany
They long for revelation
What they want is relief
From their bad consciences
