Robby Berman - Work In Progress

Take a good look
What I am is a work who's in progress
Picture lasts longer
All I can hope
Is to do
The best I can do
Better every day

A friend of mine had learned
Her number might be up this time
And that was bad enough
But something even worse
Was stomping all around her mind

She said to me
I always hoped
That when my time had come
I'd be at peace
And grateful for
A satisfying run
But here I am
I failed myself
'Cuz all I am is pissed
A week went by
And when we spoke
She calmly told me this

What can I say
What I am is a work who's in progress
Now and forever
All I can hope
Is to do
The best I can do
Any given day

Yes, of course, it will pain a butt
But slack must now and again be cut
It's good, and maybe it's good enough
To try and try and try

I shake my stoopid head
The clueless big buffoon I am
It takes my breath away
With all I know by now
I blow it anyhow all day

I thought by now
I'd gather how
To keep it sweet and light
That looking down
And freaking out
Are really not too bright
And what a rube
A big maroon
A bomb in a cigar
Some blinkin' eyes
A smokin' head
A shrug and there we are

What we have here
Is the case of a work who's in progress
Note the befuddling
All I can hope
Is to do
The best I can do
Try a different way

Try and relax
It's a fact I'm a work who's in progress
Time to get over it
All I can hope
Is to do
The best I can do
Better every day
