Crumbcatcher - Y2k

It was winter, 1999
I was washing my hands when the heater died
We all huddled around our fireplace for warmth

We had the news up on the tv
Everyone's wrapped up in the new century
I was playing with my robots and my cars

My uncle calls our telephone
He's got a bottle of champagne in his drawer
My dad took it off of speaker when He said he met some girl at the bar

And I checked the time, it was 11:29
I've never been up this late but my mom said
It was fine

And I'm sat here shivering
Yeah it's the turn of the new century tonight

I held my mom's hand as the doorbell rang
My uncle barged in with a grin on his face
We all shared hugs as the doorknob clicked shut

But the laughs were quick to end
As the tone starts to bend
And my mom rushes me out
Out to the yard with our friends

I feel a blanket on my shoulders
And a pat on the back
From a cop whose name is gone
And I wish I could forget

But I still remember everything
You know I would give anything
To be sat there shivering
Like it's the turn of the new century

Tonight
